“Whit” is an inventor, author, entrepreneur and owner of Whit’s End—an ice cream shop and “discovery emporium” where kids can be kids. His wise counsel, inventiveness and insight have made him a trusted friend and confidant to everyone in Odyssey.

Jonathan Avery Whittaker was born on October 1st in Kinglassie, Scotland. His father, Harold Whittaker was a teacher of Theology, and his mother Janeth Whittaker was the family homemaker. His mother could make him laugh like no one else could. When his grandfather Jackson became ill with Scarlet Fever, Janeth nursed I’m back to health, but in the process ended up contracting the illness herself. She died soon afterwards.
John’s father hired a nanny for him named Fiona Donneral, who later became his stepmother. She had a daughter name Charlotte from a previous marriage. John thought that Fiona was trying to take his mother’s place, and at first did not accept her. In fact, he spoiled the wedding dress his father had bought her by getting chocolate all over it.
